Summer Camp 2010

~PATH TO EXCELLENCE~









Day One. June 7th, 2010 Monday






-Monday the first day we all got together as a group and listened to the teachers introductions. We also learned how to do Drum Routines after we did a few classes we got on the school bus and went to skaters cabin and had a BBQ. The end of the day we headed to the dorms and met the people we were gonna be staying in the same room with for the next two weeks. My roomates were Cora, Sacha and Emma.














Day Two. June 8th, 2010 Tuesday

-Tuesday only our second day of camp we woke up at 7 am starting our first morning run. the run wasnt to bad but it wasnt something i usually did after the run we went down to breakfast once everyone was done we started classes after long hours of sitting we went and headed for the buses and left to Auke Wreck and spent the whole day there.













Day Three. June 9th, 2010 Wednesday






-Were up 7 am for our morning run and it feels alil weird still. We go for breakfast after our run. Than our first class is Tlingit Language Identity with Mary Folletti & David Katzeek. Than right before lunch we got on the school bus to head over to "Allen Marine Tours" to Taku Inlet. After awhile on the boat we listen to our elders tell storeys and than our whole group danced and sang for them to show our appriciation. After all that we got up in front of everyone and told everyone thanks for everything. Than we waited to get off to get on the bus to head over to the rec for dinner after dinner we did our evening activities and had fun.






Day Four. June 10th Thursday






-Another day of running 7 am with breakfast after. Once were done with breakfast we head over to the next building for classes the first class was "My Journey To College & Beyond" with Frank Coenrad & David Katzeek. Next class is Tlingit Language Identity with Mary Folletti & David Katzeek. Our last class was Canoe Math with Jeremy Strong & Mary Folletti. After class we boarded the school bus to Montana Creek to do an examination on The forest & creek with Ryia Waldren & Aaron Bladwin. After examinations we boarded the school bus to the rec for dinner as usuall we also had a brief disscusion on the math trail. After a long day we got ready for a dance that had to get reschedualed cause then National Guard had the rec reserved so we all just went to the lounge some people played pool watched tv listened to music or just play games.






Day Five.June 11th Friday






-We had our normal morning run 7 am and breakfast right after. Than we had our long talk about "My Journey To College & Beyond" with Frank Coenrad. After that class we had Tlingit Language Indentity With Mary Folletti. Than after lunch we had class with Jeremy Strong for Canoe math and Mary Folletti After our snack we headed downtown to do our LONG hike up Mt.Roberts Trail to eat dinner and cake up there.






Day Seven.June 12th saturday

-Saturday was okay we took a break from our morning run but i noticed when we sat in class we were all more tired than usuall. After all our classes we went to Auke Wreck for the Seal Dissection. It was a good experiance to see how things were done how they were cut and what had to be cut and what couldnt be we also cooked the fat to get the grease into cans cause they can be used for other types of foods.



Day Eight.June 13th Sunday

-Another day without our morning run some slept in and others wanted to do laundry so we got to pick what we wanted to do with the time we had they also cancled a few of our morning classes so we can do laundry and eat breakfast. After our class we left for the buses to "Allan Marine Tours" we were going to Berners Bay so that our elders can tell us storys about there land and how things used to be so our teachers had about 10 of us go to the Island to take way points pictures and notes.



Day Nine.June14th Monday

-We woke up and got ready to go to outter point or sunshine cove for our low tide walk and we stayed out there all the way up till around noon than we did alil more of our plant collection after everything we got on the bus back to the UAS for class our first class was Canoe math with Jeremy Strong Than we had our last class which was weaving, paddles or octopus bags. After class we had dinner than we did our evening activities like frisbee golf with Aaron Baldwin or Work out in the Gym with the Chaperones.


Day Ten. June 15th Tuesday

-We finally got back to our morning run 7 am of course and breakfast right after the first class of the day was "My Journey To College & Beyond" with Frank Coenrad than we had Tlingit Language Identity with Mary Folletti & David Katzeek.After lunch we had canoe math with Jeremy strong & Mary Folletti. After all that we got on the bus to Sandy beach for our trail walk. Along with our brief disscussion about the trail.Than we had a BBQ there and cake for Scharon. Our last class was the weaving octopus bags and paddles After that we had our evening activities frisbee golf and working out in the gym again.


Day Twelve. June 16th Wednesday

-we had our normal morning run 7 am and went to the cafetaria for breakfast than our first class was "My Journey To College & Beyond" with Frank Coenrad than Tlingit Language Idnetity with Mary Folletti & David Katzeek. Than we got on the bus to "West Glaicer Trail" along with a math trail and plant collection. after we had a brief disscussion about the trail and went to dinner at th rec our last class of the day was weaving paddles and octopus bags than last of all we had our evening activites like usuall.

Day Thirteen.June 17th Thursday

-We started out with breakfast cause some of the students slept in and didnt run on wednesday so some of us that ran we got to sleep in and than went to "My Journey To College & Beyond" with Frank Coenrad than Tlingit Language Identity with Mary Folletti after classes we had lunch we got on the bus to twin lakes to try out our box canoes and they turned out pretty good some didnt do to well but we all tried our best. After the box canoes we had dinner and played around than we got on the bus back to the dorms and had our one last time together doing a dance.


Day Fourteen.June 18th Friday

Today is our last day to see eachother and through this whole camp we had our new and old experiences while having fun doing things and meeting new people and becoming good friends. We've learned so much about our culture and somewhat of our language thanks to the staff : )
